Roger,

Sorry i really don't understand the question. However, i wouldn't try to read too much into this since McData is the incumbent on the Model 5 Director [ Escon connectivity] and it is logical that they would be the one to upgrade this device for FC or Ficon functionality. It does serve however to jog the memory that McData has a history with IBM.

IBM Global Services is an integral part of IBM. Its leader reports directly to an executive VP who reports directly to Lou Gersner. The function of this fibre bridge is to pass data between ESCON and Fibre Channel. Its shows that IBM is serious about moving to fibre channel in the mainframe area. Companies who are using ESCON now can purchase fibre channel base machines which can also communicate with the old via this bridge. Who will win the fibre channel side of the business with IBM? It's anyone's guess. I like Ancor's chances.
