As I understand it, short selling is the practice of borrowing stocks at a certain price, selling them, and then buying an equal number of shares back when the price falls to a desired level to give back to the lending broker. I assume this would hold true of illegal naked shorting as well. Am I wrong? Do nekkid shorts hold on to the shares they borrow? If so, why?
