DK TB AW and all; OFF TOPIC

I heard about mad cow concerns in the US but did not hear them attributed to a foreign source. In fact, our domestic food supply is not above reproach; many foreign countries will not allow importation of US meat because we use steroids. Also our supposedly safer food supply is achieved by widespread use of antibiotics which is widely believed to contribute to the appearance of resistant strains of bacteria. i.e. our short term solution is creating a long term problem.

The problem is biological in nature, not political (i.e. not due to a misguided trade treaty). For some reason, concerns about food generate an amazing amount of heat Look what happened when the FDA wanted to put any kind of labeling on vitamins. The mere suggestion really revved up the food faddist lobby :). Although I too want properly inspected food, I don't think it is just a foreign import issue. But maybe that's because I lived in Brazil and just loved their fruits and vegetables.
