I'm not sure about that. Why should a word processor, a spreadsheet, or a database be considered a "heavy weight application?" It's just the way MSFT has written them. I consider myself to be a 'power' user of these programs, but there are scads of features that I don't use.

Also, perhaps I'm overly optimistic, but I think that networks will be able to be run reliably at some point in the future -- especially local ones. The idea of 'localizing' the software for updates and changes is a good one --- it appears that the quality is not there yet or the folks I deal with don't know how to run them. Ultimately, it shouldn't take some kind of tech specialist to run a network or the design engineers have failed somewhere along the line, IMO.
