Its funny that the US deals with China and Indonesia (which, just by chance happen to be big sources of cheap labour and huge potential consumer markets) with "constructive engagement" but decides that Cuba, Iran and Libya should be shut off completely and any other country that deals with them should be "nuked".

The Sino-US relationship was based on the need to contain Soviets, not economic opportunity. India never came to the equation, except as a nuisance parameter due to her friendship treaty with the Soviets. Now that the Soviet threat is all but gone, US is primarily focusing on economic opportunity. Many experts now expect that US will find a way to not alienate Indians and that must be the calculation of the Indian government in timing the event.
