<< How modular is SUN's new SAN products will be? What FC products will HWP,
CPQ, BULL, DG, IBM deliver? We have bits and pieces of information, not the
final products and what they can do and how each of them compare up with each
other. >>

I'm getting the feeling that Unisys, DG, and DEC are a little ahead of the others such as HP, IBM, BULL, etc., but they are all still working to come with product. Anyone else getting similar feelings?

One of the reasons for the delay for systems has been because ONLY one drive company seems to be sole source (ie. Seagate). Anyone have any ideas when QNTM, IBM, Fujitsu, and WDC will be ready to throw out and around the new drives ? This should be the start of walk to jog pace.

all imho,

<<<I would appreciate any explanation of why a current customer would want to purchase Ancor switches under an NDA. >>>

NDAs are typically used to protect intellectual property rights. Some more reasons why Ancor may be using NDAs with their customers are:
1) They want to protect their foreign patent rights - they could lose foreign patent rights if they did not file for foreign patent rights yet (this process can take up to a year);
2) They want to be extra careful to make sure that their U.S. patent applications will issue with broad coverage and that they won't have to re-file any of their patent applications (they could possibly lose foreign patent rights if they have to re-file);
3) They don't want anybody trying to improve upon their working models (if anyone would improve their working models, then the NDA would give Ancor all property rights to any improvements); and/or
4) Ancor is still making improvements to their existing products and the NDAs will help them properly maintain patent rights in those improvements.

KJ,

You are correct. It isn't ANCOR that wants to keep quiet, it is the OTHER companies. The rationale is that they don't want to give their competitors any information that might be used against them, such as shipping schedules, features, etc.
