[UTILITIES] NRC Generic Letter issued yesterday

'You can read between the lines yourself to guess if they would
actually shut plant(s) down if enough progress is not made.'

______

Yesterday the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), issued
Generic Letter 98-01. This is the official response of the
NRC to the Y2K problem.

It is mostly similar to the draft version out since 2/98.

The Generic Letter requires all Commercial Nuclear Reactor License
holders to respond to the NRC with their Y2K plans (and what has
already been accomplished) within 90 days. By summer of 1998
(the date is in the loooonnnngg text version, posted under
"NRC Y2K Generic Letter"), Y2K activities must be complete, or
an update provided on what is left to do. The NRC said point
blank that the majority of the work had better be done by then.
You can read between the lines yourself to guess if they would
actually shut plant(s) down if enough progress is not made.
