Who says Dell is out selling Compaq? Last I checked, Compaq still had the largest market share. Why would someone buy a Compaq instead of a Dell? The same reason someone would buy from a retail store rather than mail order. Same reason someone would want to spend less money. The better direct comparison would be Dell vs Gateway and Compaq vs IBM and HP. The first thing people check in a store is the CPU speed, then the RAM and the size of the hard drive. Maybe then the video RAM. New buyers feel confident buying big names...but that doesn't separate IBM, HP and Compaq. They are all big names. So basically it's hard to answer your question about what makes someone buy brand X. More importantly id that Compaq runs a tight ship. Jim

The only ones sillier than the original purchasers of Packard Bell computer (I am talking about ones made over 7 years ago though I bot and never had any issues with a fine 486 33mhz), is the people that say they are terrible and have no idea what the heck they are talking about.. For the record, why did your friend regret purchasing his Pack Bell?? 90% of people can't give any type of intelligent answer. The other 10% are just plain using wrong assumptions. Compaq makes quality stuff, but they do cut corners to consistently hit the buzz specs and be the low cost box......
