Analogies

Ole,

You're welcome!

On and on it is still very difficult to grasp the various scenarios 1999-2001.

We are all so used to living the way we live... It is certain Y2k will have a big impact on the way we live the coming 5 years. It is just very hard to see how...

It is always useful to use analogies... a few have been posted here and elsewhere.

- British military and citizens simply not grasping and reacting to the Japanese invation in Singapure. To the British it was absolutely inconceivable that the Japanese (or any eastern people) could succesfully beat them.

- Famous band on the Titanic playing on...

- Many Jews living in Europe 1933 - 1940. Only few could grasp what was about to happen...

- (Lacking) military preparation of France and Great Brittan in the view of NaziGermanies military built-up in the thirties. Also preparing for the wrong war: to some extend; the sole focus on IT systems (until recently) might well be seen as preparing for the 'wrong' war; just like the French building the Maginot-defense-line (in preparation of a WWI-like war; but easily circumvented by German tanks in 1940).
In some articles by Leon Kappelman; he presents some striking resemblances between that time and now (Chamberlain corresponding to current (US) government; 'blood, sweat and tears'-Churchill corresponding to ???? )

Regards,

John
