Re:When AMAT says they grew their CMP product line 60%, recall that they are starting from a base of zero as of very recently (last year, if I recall correctly

Last year AMAT's share was 17%, I believe.

Steve and other CMP thread heads,

The AMAT threat of market share gains from IPEC and SFAM is very real. I'm curious if any one on this thread knows what CAGR to place on CMP participants given the very fragmented nature of this industry's market share breakdown. It certainly is no where near the CMP industry CAGR of 23%.

IMO, IPEC and SFAM don't have a better market share strategy than to merge to head off the consolidating ways of AMATs global service and support. Respective management team egos should not stand in the way of value creation on behalf of shareholders. I've seen this happen time and again and a repeat in CMP land would not surprise me.

I'm currently not a shareholder of IPEC or SFAM for the above reasons. However, I would actively buy these issues on the strength of a proposed combination.

Regards and good luck,

Jay
