Perhaps when you boot it will say Compaq or Dell or some such thing before the Windows Logo appears. What else could it mean? If this is it, this whole thing has been some guide of farce entered into by the "court" jesters.

Chung- Choice of screen, what does it mean?

I think it means that Windows 98 cannot be the first screen that is seen at boot up, I am assuming after all the other BIOS headers from video/SCSI/etc... appear right after boot.

I think they did this so the manufacturers could put a screen up that says "Press 1 for Windows 98, Press 2 for Solaris" etc... Maybe??? I guess the first screen is seen as a control point that reverts to the manufacturers and not to Microsoft. But this is already done in other ways. I have installed computers with a first screen that is a mouse tutorial.

As long as they allow MSoft to continue integrating and don't break them up, it looks good.

Jon :)

What is wrong with Microsoft on the first screen ? Just like FORD sells cars and had
control over the cars it sells , FORD had the right to decide what the car should look like, and had the right to decide to put whatever logo on the cars. The same for Misoft, it sells the OS software which controls the PCs, so Micro soft had the right to put what ever logo it likes on the first screen of the display. What is wrong with it? if the government decides to support free choice of first screen, then it also means the consumers should have the freedom to decide whatever logo should be put on the cars they buy ? Then, non of the companies in US should have the right to put any logos on the products they sell. Any company put any logos on the product it sells
will be illegal. Which also means the US flag is illegal, to some extent, the flag represent the logo of the country, and what the logo of the country should be should be decided by the individuals, that is what we call freedom of choice !!! Funny !!!

When I think about those first screen joke further, I feel it is very funny about it.
If Microsoft is not allowed to put its logo on the first screen, then what about those TV stations put those TV programs or advertisements on the screen of my TV?
I do not like to see FORD's ads on my TV, I do not like to see C-SPAN on my TV, I do not like to see Mr. Allen Greenspan on my TV ....etc, so many things I do not like to see on my TV, then should I suit those TV stations ? or should DOJ suit all the TV
stations ? or NBC, CBS, ABC ? Do I have the freedom to decide what should be played on my TV ? Does the DOJ conduct a policy of double standard ?
