Every morning after I flip the power on switch on my PC,..

Chung, the "first screen" issue is only an issue for first-time PC buyers. If you've been around totally green PC newbies, they are incredibly ignorant. My cousin (a registered nurse) bought an IBM 233MMX last December. Just one week ago, she called me (again) because she claimed she had "lost her in-box" for her e-mail. Over the phone she kept saying, "what about this square thingy". I finally asked her what in tarnation she was talking about saying "square thingy". She said, "you know, that thing with the metal sliding thing on it that you stuck in that slot when we first got the computer". (!!!!!!) -- the monitor driver was on a 3-1/2" floppy. I couldn't believe it. This is five months after she bought the PC, and she still doesn't know what a floppy disk is.

Speaking of turning on the PC, I've had my Dell P100 running almost continually since Dec. 1995. It stays on 24 hrs a day.

RE: "Is this "first screen" issue also a non-event?"

In my case it was. When I first bought my DEC PC and booted up the DEC screen came up. I merely clicked a command button that asked the question of which screen do you want to come up at boot, the DEC screen or Windows screen. I can't think of any reason why anyone would not choose the Windows screen.
