Spots, MrB, All,

Here's a URL to a thread here at SI which discusses voice/speech recognition.

I believe the Build Your Dream PC thread here in the Coffee Shop has some discussion, as well.

If you click on my SI profile page and then on the Medical Reference Resource Page, there are some links to links to links to discussions of voice recognition technology by people who have actually used the stuff to do real work.

My impression is that voice/speech recognition is not quite ready for primetime but can be used quite effectively to issue basic keyboard/mouse commands and to read text from the screen. The more patient or tenacious user might be able use it for writing a thesis but probably would find such not worth the effort or the learning curve.
