Art,
I have seen many times in this thread that revenue and earnings increases in IBM were flat.
Things IMO should be taken into perspective, in between 96-97, revenue growth of the company, was about the same as the TOTAL revenue of Dow Jones (#493 company is sales according to Forbes). The increase in Earnings was 564M which was the equal to the TOTAL earnings of Kellog (#147 in sales according to Forbes) for 1997. The Free Cash Flow? $11.09B roughly the same as the total sales of Anheuser-Busch (#131 in total sales according to Forbes). This is one BIG company even if its market cap is half that of Microsoft.
