AMAT may have been liked because:

(a) backlog did not shrink as much as one would have thought
(b) gaining market share
(c) dominant company
(d) exemplary management

As a rule I never short companies that I admire. AMAT I admire. I doubt very much it will go racing to the moon from here. There is no earnings momentum to support it. I expected the stock to go down today since business conditions have deteriorated so much. I have no real idea why the stock is sustained. You are right about WS loving the stock.
