Rod:

To be honest this name thing is getting old. I really don't care too much if they called themselves Bob or Eggbert or Lewinsky's Boys.

I'm not sure what to make about those comments.

Some are ridiculous:

"may only be put off by Borland's name change. In the enterprise, stability and reliability are key. Surprising name changes don't evoke those images."

Hopefully this is more than an ego trip. Really hopefully!

On the sizeables pay scales, not sure what to do there either - they likely would not have got too many quality people if the pay scales were not very high. Having said that the compensation levels (from the proxy) look obscene.

RE: The half a million options they won't be worth much if the stock does not appreciate. So tying at least this chunk of his salary to the stock is a good thing. However half a million options is again very high I think.

Now on the other hand if the company grows to be a 500 million in sales company by 2001 then these compensation levels might in hindsight look pretty reasonable.

It would have been extremely nice if the compensation he accepted was much more REASONABLE and tied to the performance of the stock - but...

Shane.
