John: Regarding the mini plants, they are on the back burner because in the last year or so the smaller hog producers are being replaced by the monster hog raising operations. This trend is accelerating because of NAFTA and the competitive nature of the industry. In the Toronto Star of May 8 there was a full 2 page article on this accelerating trend. Please remember the mini plant was to be for Canada where there are/were many relatively small operations. These operations simply spread the manure on their own lands. What is happening now is that the US style operation with many thousands of pigs is coming to Canada. This will raise the same problem experienced in North Carolina, i.e. not enough area to spread the manure resulting in severe pollution of air, ground and surface water. What they need now are existing TMPs. These would not need the odour combusters or the expensive dryers. The reason being that: 1. the quick processing kills the smell as well as the fact that it is an aerobic process as opposed to anaerobic (much less noxious gases). 2. The complete drying would not be needed because liquid would be fed back to animals and any extra can be dumped safely on the land, remember it is now free of pathogens and will not contaminate soil, ground water or surface water. About Tom's information about Spain and other things, there is no point on the personal abuse being dished out. If people choose not to believe his postings, fine, but personal attacks are totally uncalled for. I have also spoken with Ed Kroeker about Spain and Tom's information is in greater depth but essentially the same. I also believe Ed Kroeker who has always been very open and honest with me. Of course there is no guarantee that TTRIF will have business in Spain, but it has a very high probability because of the ECU requirements. Tom, please continue to post. Cheers, Sheldon
