According to Cisco executives in their quarterly conference call a couple of quarters ago, they said that the last 2 weeks of the quarter are so critical, the quarter can be made or not made in those two weeks, depending on order flow.

So you have 2 months worth of data going into the last month. That's 33% of the data that's not there yet. Anyway, HWP execs said that they did not know they would come 12 &cent light until this week. Either they are lying and they didn't want to preannounce (until they saw the stock zoom up), or they are incompetent, or my view is right. You pick. :-)

>>>>> Dwight, I disagree. I too, am an accountant (before becoming a trader). These companies put together MONTHLY financials . After the first 2 months of the Q, and during the third month, it MUST have become apparent that they would be short of the budget. I repeat. they MUST have known they would be missing the Q by a significant amount. Maybe not the full extent, but they knew (IMHO).

I read a report that said the PC business fell off a cliff in April,
Due to pricing.
So in mid April they probably thought everything was OK.
