Looking back over the last 5 quarterly reports it is clear that new orders always come in big chunks. It is noted that new orders for Q2 of 97 had included within it the "biggest single order" in company history.

I read an article in our local paper on April 28, 1998 that two telecommunication groups (the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association and the Personal Communications Industry Association) filed a suit in federal court against the Department of Justice and the FBI stating that these agencies are overstepping the boundaries of a law which was intended to preserve the government's ability to tap digital telecommunications. The dispute centers around who should pay for modification of telecommunications equipment installed before 1995. Apparently the Government is suppose to absorb these costs. The article states that some of the cost burden has been shifted to equipment manufacturers.

The important piece of the article indicated that Congress approved $500 million for equipment upgrades alone. It seems as if electronic surveillance is alive and well. Hopefully this is encouraging news for APSG shareholders even though it does not impact the company directly.

The source of the article was AP and the author was Jeannine Aversa.
