DSC FOCUS NM2100 Now Available for North American Deployment New Network Management System Provides Centralized Network Control From a Single Platform DALLAS, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- DSC Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: DIGI) announced today the availability of its DSC FOCUS NM2100 network management system to support a wide range of DSC's North American transport, access and switching network elements. Already supporting the company's international SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy)-based transmission equipment, the DSC FOCUS NM2100 can now be used to manage DSC's SONET-based and North American data products from a single craft interface as well. The new North American system will be on display at DSC's booth #4239 at next month's SUPERCOMM trade show in Atlanta (June 9-11). The DSC FOCUS NM2100 is a TMN (Telecommunications Management Network)- compliant platform, which has been deployed in such countries as Denmark, Poland, the U.K., Norway and Moldova. Selected NM2100 applications are available now for managing DSC's iMTN(R) broadband digital cross-connect system, the DG100 Data Groomer(TM) (which supports such advanced services as frame relay and ATM), and DSC's INfusion(TM) Signal Transfer Point (STP). Additional NM2100 modules are targeted in 1998 for the company's extended line of digital cross-connects including the DSC DEXCS. The DSC FOCUS NM2100 is based on the commercially available and widely deployed TeMIP platform from Digital Equipment (DEC) and offers a wide range of both element- and network-level applications in a fully scaleable and distributed environment. "We are pleased to introduce the new DSC FOCUS NM2100 for the North American marketplace," said Russ Davis, vice president, DSC's Transport Division. "This system provides vital network management capabilities for today's service providers, as they expand their networks to support more and more advanced service offerings. The DSC FOCUS NM2100 has been very well-received in Europe, and this North American model is scheduled to be delivered to Bell Atlantic as part of its next generation SONET network deployment announced in March of this year."
