Tip, The reason they can't is because there are too many competitors around, and some like Computer Sciences or EDS or Cambridge Technology Associates or Logicon or Perot Systems do a better job than IBM. So, they have a niche with lame brained main frame hardcore players. And they are playing that niche to the max. They can make better margins than in pcs because there is no margin in pcs any more. But they can't touch mainframe profit margins, and that is the part of the business that is rapidly declining. Also, all IT budgets go down before Y2K and services will be the first thing hit as managers use their in-house expertise first. MB

tipster, notice he said "may" see double digit rev growth. more importantly, notice what he didn't say. he didn't say eps "may" grow in double digits. why?

look how fast gtw and cpq are increasing revs with negative impact on eps.

ibm's chief said a bunch of meaningless garbage and the brain dead bow down b/c they aren't equipped with the mental wherewithall to compete.

like when mu management said "dram demand continues to remain strong." i said that statement was meaningless within a minute after i read it.
