DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1998--Preferred Voice, Inc.
(OTC/BB:PFVI), a developer and marketer of proprietary
telecommunication services utilizing speech recognition technology,
headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and e.spire Communications, Inc.
(Nasdaq/NMS:ESPI), formerly "ACSI," a leading provider of integrated
communication solutions, including dedicated access, local dial
tone, long-distance, advanced data, Internet, and networking
solutions, headquartered in Annapolis Junction, Md., today announced
a master collocation and facilities purchase agreement.
The agreement enables Preferred Voice to offer its speech
recognition and voice verification enhanced products and services
through the e.spire network of 17 Lucent 5ESS2000 switch cities and
37 points of presence cities throughout the United States.
According to G. Ray Miller, president and chief executive
officer of Preferred Voice, "Today's agreement gives us the
infrastructure for rapid nationwide market penetration, including
installed CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) facilities and
switches, with local access at fixed rates. It also provides for a
substantial purchase agreement of national and international
long-distance services."
Preferred Voice provides quality enhanced speech recognition
services such as voice activated auto attendant and corporate
directory systems. The company also provides businesses with low
cost voice activated long-distance service to and from any phone
including cellular and pay phones. Preferred Voice also provides a
cellular debit service which offers pre-paid cellular end users low
cost long distance and local air time.
Miller stated that Preferred Voice has begun offering its
services to customers in the Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg,
Fla., areas. With the e.spire agreement, Preferred Voice expects to
install its Voice Integrated Platforms (VIP) in 24 additional cities
over the next 12 months.
To provide these services, the company has developed the Voice
Integration Platform (VIP) as a modular PC Windows NT system which
combines the company's proprietary software with the technology and
algorithms developed by Dallas-based Voice Control Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq/NMS:VCSI).
Pete Foster, president and chief executive officer of Voice
Control Systems, stated, "This agreement should give e.spire a big,
competitive advantage over other local exchange carriers. Plus, it
will introduce a lot more businesses to the benefits of speech
recognition."
