Company Press Release
Philips Consumer Electronics B.V. and American Technology Corporation Sign Agreement
HyperSonic Sound Licensing Objectives Outlined
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1998--American Technology Corporation (OTC: ATCO - news), a developer of innovative electronic and acoustic technologies, announced today that it has signed an Agreement with Philips Consumer Electronics (PCE).

Under the Agreement, PCE will evaluate American Technology Corporation's (ATC) HyperSonic(tm) Sound (HSS) for inclusion into TV/Home Cinema, PC monitors and Audio products manufactured and marketed by PCE.

''We are excited with our involvement with ATC's HyperSonic Sound. The potential of this innovative technology will add a competitive advantage to our consumer products,'' said Roel P. Kramer, Chief Technology Officer for PCE. ''We look forward to working with ATC on bringing this important development to market.''

Philips Consumer Electronics B.V. is part of the $39.2 billion Philips Electronics N.V family which makes products ranging from Compact Disc players to light bulbs and security systems to semiconductors.

''Philips Consumer Electronics brings vast resources in global marketing and technical know how to our HSS Alliance,'' stated Dale Williams, Chairman and CEO for ATC. ''This agreement marks the beginning of an expected family of diverse and innovative consumer electronics products incorporating HSS technology.''

HyperSonic Sound is a new technology in sound production that employs ultrasonic tones in a new patents-pending process to produce sound directly in the air. HSS eliminates many forms of distortion and reduces room acoustical effects. HSS uses little space and weight and is comparatively efficient and cost competitive relative to direct radiating loudspeakers. The laser-like HSS ultrasonic beam can project audible sound to virtually any listening environment creating many new sound applications previously impossible with existing speaker technology.

American Technology Corporation is a San Diego-based electronics company specializing in the development, manufacture and marketing of leading-edge proprietary electronic products and acoustical technologies. For more information on the Company and its products visit www.atcsd.com.
