Re: Jeff on Zenits . . .

Jeff - I have been wearing out the chips in my computer trying to
get info on the Zenit, and as you know, it ain't easy. The launch date
of June 23 is from Launchspace, and I have know way of knowing if it is accurate.
I will pass on the following items from Readware on the AOL/Fool
board:
"Since the last launch, the Zenit has been completely redesigned. The separation mechanism was designed for the new Zenit 2
by Saab-Erricson. It has 130 successful launches, with no fails.
Zenit 2 employs a varient of the Locheed DM Block -that of the Proton,
which has one fail in the last 3 years. The diameter payload varient
was constructed by Boeing, whose launch success is 98%."
I believe Readware got this info at the Launch Design and
Engineering Conference in Washington, DC March 9-11.

He also said that Loral engineers will be going to
Baikonur on June 8th, which would suggest that things must be
reasonably on schedule.
