Microsoft Monopoly

RE:"I saw a Beta version a couple of months ago. At that point they had done away with explorer and replaced it with IE .. in that form the internet browser would be the OS. In other words, to look at your own hard drive you would need to log on."

No way! Log on to whom? Pay to log on? Pay to whom? What about a lap top in the field?

I am sure I have misunderstood what you are trying to tell us. Right?

Gersh,

thanks for info but I am not clear on "log on". Do you mean that IE is now explorer but I don't really have to dial into anything, or do I?

Explorer was the old file manager, which I have to say is an absolute integral part of the OS. If they use IE in lieu of the explorer, how am I going to be to do those functions with a Netscape browser? If true, what could MSFT be offering DOJ?

Comments from any beta W98 experts appreciated.

You must have misunderstood what you were looking at. You do not have to log on to look at your own drive. I can view my local drive and local folders without logging on.

The only time I have to "log on" is when I go to an external web page.

Hi Gersh,

I assume you mean a beta version of win98? If you want to turn off web view, look under View on the menu bar and click "as web page" ("unclick" it, actually).

This will give you the "regular" interface.
