Odetics says court grants injunction

ANAHEIM, Calif., June 9 (Reuters) - Odetics Inc (ODETA - news). on Tuesday said a federal court has granted an injunction barring Storage Technology Corp. (STK - news) from making, selling or using any devices that infringe on a patent for a pass-through port.
In addition, StorageTek was ordered to post a bond consistent with a recent jury award of $70.6 million to Odetics in the patent infringement case, Odetics said in a statement.

StorageTek's motion to stay the injunction was denied. A hearing was set for July 1, to consider a final injunction and damages preceding the lawsuit's original filing date, June 29, 1995. StorageTek's infringing products were available as early as 1988, Odetics said.

Previously, the jury awarded damages for a period from June 29, 1995, to March 27, 1998, the verdict date. This figure was based on a royalty of 4 percent of sales, Odetics said.

In other matters, the court denied Odetics' motions for more injunctive relief, and it has not yet ruled on a possible enhancement of damages against StorageTek for willful infringement.

StorageTek officials were not immediately available to comment.

Odetics makes communications equipment for the television broadcast, video security, telecommunications and other markets.
