Kinda' reminds me of a story in the WSJ a few years back where a small midwestern town was having its turkey festival (apparently, turkeys were the big industry in the area). As part of the festivities, they took a bunch of live turkeys (bird-type) up in a small aircraft with the plan of pushing them out to fly down over the revelers. The organizers didn't know that turkeys can only fly a short distance; like up into a tree. The temporarily live turkeys came hurtling down like feathered bombs, crashing through roofs and bouncing off cars.

Maybe it was organized by the same people as the chicken canon! ...Tim

That joke is so old it came out of Noah's Ark in a wheelchair. But I laugh every time I hear it.
