I fly in and out of Phoenix Sky Harbor almost every week and have occasionally experienced problems with Ricochet. The primary problem is weak signals at some of the gates; sufficiently weak that I could not connect to the network. Often, I have to move 20 feet or so to get a decent signal.

In contrast, the coverage at Terminal A of the San Jose airport is wonderful; no dead spots that I could find. Perhaps Metricom needs to install more poletop units at the Phoenix airport.

I have also once connected to the network from the tarmac after landing at LAX, while the plane was sitting there for 15 minutes waiting for a gate to free up.

Coverage is also very good in the Bay Area. I could even acquire the network from my company's underground parking lot in Cupertino. Definitely no need for "line-of-sight" to a poletop.

BTW. For those who travel with their Ricochet, www.thetrip.com has up to the minute flight data on the aircraft that you are waiting for, often more accurate than info from your airline representatives :-)

Oh yeah, I am sending this using Ricochet :-P

Cheers,
