<OT re:Datek> I opened an account with them and basically found it to be a complete nightmare. I tried to transfer my Discover account to them and they rejected the transfer because my margin balance was too high (about 25% of my equity at the time). I had no access to my account for ten days and lost about $5,000.00 during that time. The people there were unsympathetic and acted like they could care less about my account. They also refused to expedite my transfer or allow me to trade even after they received confirmation of transfer. imho-rod p.s. Discover is pretty good, especially the people. Margin rate is a little high and trades sometimes seem a bit slow and i certainly haven't gotten improvement very often.

AE, check out the e-trade thread, there is no shortage of opinion on on-line trading there.

OT: DATEK

>>>Change of subject.... does anyone use Datek online for trading?

<<<
I had a DATEK IRA, but switched to AmeriTrade. DATEK just nickels and dimes you to death, and when I first opened the account, it was only a small amount. Sort of honked me off. Trades executed quickly enough, I just hated giving up gains for all their little fees.

I find AmeriTrade to be competent, and two bucks cheaper per trade. They have a fee-free IRA, which was the main impetus for my switch. I've never executed anything more demanding than a market order, though, so if you're a stop-limit kind of guy, you may want to ask a second opinion.

Andrew.

P.S. Hi Kurt, long time no see. Are they taking the swans with them to Dublin?
