Japan believes Indonesian unrest calming--minister

TOKYO, May 15 (Reuters) - Japan believes unrest in Indonesia is calming down, Japanese Defence Minister Fumio Kyuma said on
Friday.

''The situation in Indonesia is moving towards calmness,'' Kyuma quoted Japanese Foreign Minister Keizo Obuchi as telling an
emergency cabinet meeting called to discuss the crisis. Kyuma made the comment to reporters during a break in the meeting.

Kyumu said among the issues discussed at the meeting were contingency plans in case there was a need to evacuate Japanese
citizens from riot-torn Indonesia.

He said no order had been given for an evacuation.

On his return to Indonesia on Friday morning, President Suharto ordered ministers to stop the orgy of looting and arson sweeping the
capital of Jakarta.
