>>>I don't see IFMX business as a niche business as I think db's for web commerce are where the growth will be.. order fulfillmment, inventory, graphics for games etc.......

Exactly my opinion! As the world of commerce migrates to internet/intranet/extranet solutions, it's going to become very apparent that dynamic, database-driven sites are a must for tracking, what I call
the "information transaction" along with the obvious "financial transaction." (This includes order fulfillment, inventory and direct marketing relationships on-line)

Is the on-line world of business really going to rely on 10 MM little linked databases for doing regular business? I doubt it. As the internet matures, just as with most industries, their will be consolidation for efficiency. This, IMHO, is Bob F.'s target market.
Informix (with embedded Illustra) own this part of the internet future, technologically, as far as I can see.

This plays right into the world of bank consolidation and global commerce...these directions need massive database support.

This does not negate the strength and requirements in other parts of
the market for small solutions. But its an area that seems to be off the 'stratgic' radar at the moment for Microsoft...which is good for Informix.
