US-India relations.Great Ambassadors Galbraith and Moynihan.

Peter:

You are right in that India and America not enemies but they are not
great friends either as evidenced by:

1.
No U.S Presidents has visited India in the last 20 years [I know
I am repeating myself by what the heck since the subject came up.<gg>

2.
Also shown by the level of diplomatic appointments especially at the ambassadorial level. After Wisener I believe the post was vacant and not filled for almost a year. Even when ambassadors are appointed they are not the most qualified people for the job, particularly in recent times. In the last 25 years only 2 noteworthy people come to my mind that came to India as ambassadors and they are Galbraith and Moynihan. Beyond that zilch.

3.
The US lacks a cohesive foreign policy with respect to India. So far it has been,it seems to me,a reactive one as opposed an engaging one. In spite of some great talents and minds in foreign policy matters, their services and opinions are often sadly overlooked or marginalized by incompetent politicians. For what it is worth overall I give the U.S a C in Foreign Policy matters, not only with respect to India but in general.I can cite many disasters in this arena but for the sake of brevity I'll just say that the U.S in spite of being a great democracy, economic and military super power lacks vision and a comprehensive agenda in dealing with foreign nations, friends and foe alike. For some reason foreign policy issues are just not a priority for reasons beyond my comprehension.
