Tony and all, BusinessWire, Friday, May 15, 1998 at 13:21 SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 1998--Intel Corporation today announced that executive vice president, Frank Gill will retire from the company effective June 1, 1998. Since 1997, Gill has been the general manager of Intel's Small Business and Networking Group which included the networking, reseller products, and system management divisions; the reseller sales organization and several start-up business operations. Gill's most significant accomplishments were expanding Intel's business activities in Asia and Japan while sales manager; leading Intel's efforts in the merchant motherboard business; and most recently driving the company's push into a full range of networking products. Gill joined Intel in 1975 in the Sales organization and rose to head Intel's worldwide sales force in 1987. He was elected a senior vice president of Intel in 1989, and went on to head the Intel Products Group in 1990. In 1995, he became the head of the Internet and Communications Group and was promoted to executive vice president in 1996. Intel's Small Business and Networking Group will be reorganized. The Network Products Division will become a stand alone business unit reporting to Intel's Executive Office; the Reseller Products Division becomes part of the Intel Architecture Business Group reporting to Paul Otellini; and the Reseller Channel Operation becomes part of the Sales and Marketing Group reporting to Sean Maloney. New Business Group Intel also announced it has formed a new operational group called the New Business Group (NBG) which will be headed by executive vice president Dr. Gerhard H. Parker. This group will be focused on nurturing and growing new market opportunities. The New Business Group will combine the efforts of the company's Digital Imaging and Video Division; Internet Services Operation; Business Communication Products Operation; Systems Management Division, Home Networking Operations; and Pandesic(TM) LLC, a company jointly owned by Intel and the German software company, SAP. Also reporting to Dr. Parker in his new role will be Intel's Content Group and the Intel Architecture Labs. The latter two organizations are involved in creating new users for personal computers which in turn will attract new users. "It has become increasingly clear that we must continue to focus on our core Intel Architecture, and diversify into new businesses if we are to re-energize Intel's growth in the future," said Barrett.
