Combo 3.5"/CD-ROM Drive??

I was looking through the Gateway ad for laptops in the May 1998 PC World magazine. In the specs for the 9100SE, they refer to a "Removeable Combo 8X min/20X max CD-ROM & 3.5" Diskette Drive." (For the 9100XL, they show a "Removeable Combo DVD-ROM & 3.5" Diskette Drive.") For the lower-end models, they list separately the 3.5 and the CD-ROM.)

I checked their website, and although it repeats the specs, it really doesn't describe the combo products. Does anyone know whether these are 2-in-1 devices? If so, another bay just opened up in all desk- and lap-tops: the CD-ROM bay!!
