From what you're saying it sounds like under fast market conditions you can pretty much forget about trying to use limit orders no matter what execution system you have at your disposal.

If you see traders selling ISLD on the Ask, you can buy their shares almost immediately...I don't really think in terms of market or limit orders any more; I'm more apt to buy when I know the stock will roll right through the Ask and give up the spread, if momentarily...this used to be the beauty of SOES -- now it seems the ECN's are the best bet...you can do that because CT is VERY fast, and because you are pressing [F1]-[Enter], not mousing around with "BUY" 1,000, DOGG, <click>.

Just keep the farm animals off the keyboard...
