Jan,

This does not sound like Y2K work to me. Predictive maintenance is used instead of preventative maintenance on some systems. It's probably a way to detect minor performance changes, such as increased vibrations on a pump or increased current on a motor, that would drive a maintenance activity to be performed.

Jan, this is an unrelated venture. National Instruments provides hardware and software for high-speed data acquisition. With its products, you could instrument equipment to measure (and potentially predict) failures or outages based on temperatures, vibration, and other metrics. It sounds like TAVA (or one of its partners)has developed some value-added software for the utilities industries in this area, similar to what TAVA had done with its BevOne and Precision Dispensing initiatives in the beverage & printing/textile industries.
