Before I post this message, let me just say that I do not own any of this stock and I do not care if it goes up or down. But I do have food for thought.

It seems to me that Syquest makes a product that will not be on the market much longer. Their drives are extremely unreliable as a backup device. The cartridges themselves are very fragile and are always getting bad blocks and losing data or even the ability to be read at all. A huge percentage of the drives fail and must be replaced within months of being installed. Many are DOA!

How do I know this? Because I have seen it first hand. The failure rate is worse with Syquest than with any other company that I have ever seen. The EZ135 was a disaster and the 230 is close behind! That's why Syquest dropped the warranty on the drives to 1 year after the EZ135 cost them bundles. And it continues to cost them!

I just received 3 RMA 135's a week ago. I've got 2 more going back again along with about 5 more cartridges. I've got an installed base of about 60 135's and 40 230's. About 40 of the 135's have been replaced at least once and many of them, two or more times. Of the 230's, about 12 have been replaced and 2 of them at my expense because the 1 year warranty has expired and I can't make my customers eat it after just one year of once a day use.

This is one of the things that has cost Syquest so much in lost revenues...the RMA's have eaten any chance of profits! And now customers that have tried to make Syquest work for them are being forced out because of the lost revenues in replacing RMA units and now replacing out of warranty units at our expense.

I tried to stick it out because we really do like their product...when it works. But that is becoming much to large of a liability. We must move on.

I just thought that some people might like to know this.
