A higher force than Microsoft needs to step into the market place to restore free enterprise, truth, justice, and the American way.

You are dangerously naive. The only winners are the lawyers. And you are paying for both sides!

Hal,

Who are the computer professionals providing guidance to
the DOJ as to what's best for the industry and the consumer?

SUNW, Netscape? Are the hen's guarding the fox's cage?

Yes! You are finally getting it!:
A higher force than Microsoft needs to step into the market place to restore free enterprise, truth, justice, and the American way.

That is exactly what must be done in a free society in the case of abuse of monopoly power.

HR,

I guess my attempt at not so subtle sarcasm was wasted. Oh, well. I would just ask you to think for a moment about the glaring contradiction implicit in your above statement. Free enterprise in a free society necessitates force, control and regulation to maintain freedom? The Orwellian connotations are sublime.
