It is therefore imperative that such systems be adapted and certified early enough to ensure that they are Year 2000 compliant and, very importantly, to allow inter-institution testing. The Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems has created a reporting framework that operators of payment and settlement systems can use to indicate the state of preparedness and testing of their IT infrastructures with respect to the Year 2000. The framework distinguishes between the key components of such infrastructures, i.e. the central system(s), the network(s) and network interface(s), the participants' front-end systems and other main components. For each of these components information is provided on the start and completion dates for internal testing as well as testing with external participants. An indication is also given as to the connections of the respective payment or settlement systems with other external systems, on the coordinated effort with other payment systems and/or major participants and where more information can be obtained from the respective operator. The Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems wishes to associate as wide a group of systems with this exercise as possible, both within the Group of Ten countries and outside. System operators are therefore encouraged to return the completed framework document to the Committee Secretariat at the BIS. Submission of an electronic version of the system's response (through e-mail or on diskette) is preferred. Any questions or comments should also be forwarded to the Secretariat, attention Ms. Cheryl Gleason: telephone: +41 61 280 82 87; telefax + 41 61 280 91 00; e-mail cheryl.gleason@bis.org. It would be useful if correspondents could indicate a contact person with their telephone and fax number and e-mail address. The following section of the BIS Website contains the framework itself and the replies which have currently been made available by system operators (the electronic version of the framework can be downloaded). It should be noted that the information included in these replies was prepared by the operator of each system and has not been reviewed or endorsed by the BIS or the Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems. Any questions on the content of these responses should be directed to the respective system operator. ... bis.org
