SCSI cards and Scanners

If I get a scanner with the SCSI card is that not as good as
getting my own SCSI card separately(or would they both be the
same). Am I looking at some compatibility problems?

There should be no difference between the two cards as far as the scanner is concerned. If you want to add SCSI components (DVD, CDROM, CR, CDRW, Zip, LS120, MO, harddrive) they will probably not work on the SCSI card supplied with your scanner.

If you wanted to add a SCSI card later on you would still be able to do so. You would be able to add the scanner to the new SCSI card or leave it on its own SCSI card. In other words you can have several SCSI cards in the same machine. This would depend on the number of expansion slots you have in your machine.

Does the HD need to be made for a SCSI setup?

No. As long as you have room on your IDE controller you can add your new IDE harddrive as a secondary drive. There is no need to look at SCSI drives unless you are looking for a marginal performance increase or you are running out of expansion slots.

Bundle Caution

Many bundled "SCSI" cards are proprietary and NOT true SCSI cards. First ensure the device you order is true SCSI. Next decide for yourself the merits of the bundled card IF its true SCSI.

My personal opinion is buy a true SCSI device then buy the card separately after comparing the feature and prices of the various cards.
