my two cents...windows 98 with the explorer embedded is probably
going to remove a lot more bugs from people's systems..Netscape is
free and Opera hardly costs anything..
what are these people thinking of..
Obviously I don't get it..people go for AOL and WEBTV and don't mind all the advertising..straight access to the web is so much faster and is so easy and so less expensive...I must be missing something about
human nature..
don't understand why the government just focuses on content..(don't
let Microsoft grab all the content and transmission(don't let Microsoft grab up satellites etc)
Microsoft's operating system leaves a lot to be desired..I am certain
some company down the road is going to make an embedded chip to contain an operating system that will dethrone Microsoft down the road..(java,platform independent sort of,even though quite slow, is
already accelerating in application use)(since most business people
already know the general rules for spreadsheets, words processors, databases already..the transition won't be difficult)
why can't they just focus on Microsoft's supposed practice of making
announcements of new products to squash competitors who offer the
products and then get squashed since people await Microsoft's release
which I have read doesn't materialize..
so little makes sense anymore..
(ps have been helping a friend updating a system to work via intranet..(mostly by listening)...it is a nightmare...the man is brilliant..what a nightmare..the pieces don't fit together..drivers
don't match, somethings are outdated so quickly, technical support from the "manufacturer"-not a private consultant- can
be $300 an hour..when IBM was dominant..everything flowed...
(just heard another nightmare with somebody who thought he was backing
up his system with Syquest drive..so many brilliant people are now
forced to spin their wheels)
