The figure I read was $170,000 in savings not $100,000, but what is few trillion bucks between friends? As for the miniature size of the typical Japanese apartment, this is quite correct, yet taking out that big TV and replacing it with a TV hanging on the wall can free 25 cubic feet, not only they can now consume big expensive wall TV but they have an additional 25 cubic feet for sinful consumption (stuff). G. Without joking, the Japanese and many Asian nations will come to the flag (deep inside they are quite patriotic and willing to sacrifice personal comfort for the comfort of society), but the leadership must go on the tube and tell them that it is OK to do that. Until now they have been taught the religion of supersaving and self sacrifice (minimal consumption at home, maximum effort at export) so much that if you were a Japanese seen in a German (or forget it, American) car, you would be denigrated by your peers. They need to change the psyche, and the leadership is scared stiff that if the do, they'll have to open their door wide open and expose domestic manufacturers to true global competition.
