I think reasonable environmentalist point the finger at society- which is composed of all of us. And the really committed ones set an example. We could all do more. I recycle everything- but I buy a lot of overpackaged products. I could do better. I try to minimize my driving. Our family used to take Sunday drives, now we try to take walks instead- better for us better for the environment. I buy organic produce when available. It costs more, but I like the idea it isn't all covered with pesticides. I need to do more, but at least I am doing something.

Imagining it will be feasible to move large colonies of people off this Earth is a dream at this point. Where would we go? We are not capable of venturing out to planets that could support us and we do not yet have the technology to build huge space stations- we are at least 50 years away from this. We do not understand the nuances of what cause a weed to grow in a certain place, how are we going to create total environments? Humans are intelligent. but their limitation is that frequently they do not understand their areas of ignorance. It is my belief that we do not give due respect to what we do not know. We are only a small cog in system that is so great I believe we have only scratched the surface. Now that is not to say that everything is not eventually knowable, but to make decisions at this point of wrecking the Earth because you think you can go somewhere else is just stupid. No other word for it. I am on a life boat at sea and I say "I am going to burn up my boat, because I know a ship will come along." Well, a ship might come, but then again it might not.

Hi, Skipper!!! I don't much agree with your post, but it is so nice to have you here again, anyway. I was thinking about you the other day, wondering if you had dropped off the planet or something.

I think almost everyone is fine. However, John Galt was in a very serious automobile accident several months ago, and while Terrence and I heard from him shortly afterwards, he then vanished entirely. So that is of great concern. It is very strange on the web--people vanish and you have no idea whether their computer blew up, they went sailing, or they died. Hubert Few popped up a few months back for one post but then disappeared again as well. It is eerie and creepy not knowing whether someone whose ideas and words you enjoyed is alive or dead.

I hope you are doing well?
