The remaking of Zilog

"One candidate for termination is the company's Internet Box, which it is selling with MSU Corp. The device includes a Zilog chip set that integrates a V.34 modem and Z80 microcontroller and is connected to a 386-class processor developed by Campbell-based MSU.

Observers note that Zilog is first a chip supplier and that a system-level venture, especially one aimed at a market already occupied by Microsoft Corp.'s WebTV box, is outside the company's scope. Zilog, which has sold a few thousand boxes, said it is using the platform to kickstart the browser market."
