Last week, stepping out of our house was like being suddenly transported to the streets of London. It cleared up briefly but today it's hazy again. Yesterday all the marathons were cancelled and people with respiratory problems are advised to stay inside or to wear masks. It's hard to believe that something happening so far away can so seriously and directly affect us. It lends credence to the belief that our actions are interrelated globally and we don't exist in a national vacuum. Wouldn't a farmer in Mexico who decided to clear an acre of land by burning be surprised to learn that he was a factor in the asthma attack of a child in Dallas?
