Terrence, I did a little research on Udo Erasmus, who wrote the book you cited--"Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill". I read a bunch of articles about him on the web, and also an interview with him. In none of those is palm or palm kernel oil even mentioned, and the blended oil that he peddles himself has neither of these oils in it:

florahealth.com

Obviously, if you want to eat these tropical oils you are free to do so!! However, I will stick with the American Heart Association guidelines, which advise totally avoidance of both of them:

nmh.org

And I stick with my original statement that Irish people eat a WHOLE LOT of very fatty processed foods, rich in palm and palm kernel oil, and that they have the highest rates of cancer and heart disease in Europe. Was is the Irish Times article you were criticizing when you said I just glommed onto anything on the web and took it as truth? I think the Irish Times would know better than any other source, frankly!!
