Market Yin and Yang...

Sam:

Over the long term the market goes up about 10% per year... This is after all the good years and the bad years... The returns have been 15% to 20% for over 10 years... One could argue that the market needs to return to the mean... One could also argue that this time it's different... That the efficiencies of computers and communications have altered the economic cycle...

Ten years ago we thought that Japan could do no wrong... Now, they are in a Recession with their market down over 50% from its high... The economy and the market runs in cycles... Sometimes they last longer... When this happens we begin to question whether it's different this time... There are degrees of difference, but just as the waves roll in and roll out, the seasons change and return, electrical current flows between the positive and negative, so does the flow between positive and negative economic forces... It's all part of the natural balance of things...
