John D., I guess I wasn't clear enough re "The Point". My fault, let me try again. The Point in re MSN vs. AOL is that it was a comparison with IE vs. NN. The point is, if MSFT has insurmountable advantages, then why has AOL succeeded vs. MSN? That was the point. If NN is good enough and they market it good enough, then it will succeed vs. IE.

Where AOL succeeded in competing with MSN, NSCP has struggled and steadily lost market share to IE. Many have complained that MSFT has an unfair advantage. Truth be told, they do have an advantage, but it's not an unfair one. MSFT has the most successful PC OS, and many of these utilitarian things are simply being folded into the OS. That's great by me. I frankly am happy that I don't have to buy 40 different utilities just to get what one OS gives me now.

Although I will buy utilities separate if I think MS utilities aren't good enough -- And indeed I have always bought a utility suite extra, because I feel like there are useful and important things offered by "aftermarket" vendors. I've been using Norton Utilities for quite some time.
