IMHO, you don't understand what you think you do. This level of compensation is the result of a company that has had two stock splits since the options were granted. Those of us who owned stock in early 1997 had the same benefits. Do some research into executive compensation and you will find that MD is fairly compensated with respect to his peers in American industry who are growing their businesses at 10% to 15%. Dell is growing at 60% per year! Hell, he is undercompensated! (This always confuses people who are unaccoustomed to "success".)

Andrew, what I find surprising is that so few of us on this thread seem to be concerned with this issue. This is not a bull vs. bear issue. As I see it, this is an issue of shareholder rights and managerial accountability. I used to own SEG and was infuriated when I found out that they made a habit of repricing their options when the market fell. Ostensibly, the purpose of the options is to link corporate performance to executive compensation. So -- naive me -- I wonder how this is accomplished when these same executives are able to immediately sell on the open market, or when options are repriced so that these guys are sure to get their millions from the hides of investors who have already suffered losses in the market?
