Jack, I think the bankers are engaging in a futile exercise of "building confidence", but frankly, unless they assume the investment community to consist of nothing but idiots, I do not see where this is going to lead. Maybe they are right, maybe those mega money managers are nothing but idiots and they will swallow this non-sense. I doubt that lending officers in the various international banks will buy "renegotiable" bonds of weak sovereign nations, or lend money under "renegotiable terms". If they do, I'd like to stand in line for such a loan myself (VBG). No, I would say that those G8 luminaries are trying to pull a veil over our eyes in a grand way. I would say the latter rather than the former.

Of course, there is also the possibility of a "deal under the table", where the bankers loan under these conditions and Uncle Sam (you and I) "guarrantees" these, it won't be the first time. An d I thought we are getting into a "new era" of "balanced budgets" (VBG).
